No purchase necessary
Settle It is free to play. Joining a game, making a crew and winning cost nothing, and buying anything at the bar doesn’t change your chances.
Joining
- ·Scan the code on the TV, or go to settleitgame.com and type the game's code.
- ·Type a name, then join a crew or start one. A crew is the team you play as: a table, a group of friends, one person.
- ·You can join any time before the game ends.
How a winner is decided
A game is split into periods: quarters, halves, innings, whatever the sport has. Each period, every crew holds a number from 0 to 9.
When a period ends, take the last digit of each team’s score, add them, and the last digit of that is the winning number. Seahawks 17, Bears 13: 7 + 3 = 10, so 0 wins. The crew holding it wins the period.
Some sports count something other than points (shots on goal, say, or car numbers). The game says which on the screen, and the rule is the same.
The score comes from a public score feed, or the host types it. The TV shows the winning number when the period settles.
Who holds which number
The host picks one of two ways before kickoff:
- ·Every period has a winner. All ten numbers are shared out across the crews in the room, so someone holds every number. Needs two crews.
- ·Classic. Each crew holds one number, so some periods nobody holds the winner.
Numbers are dealt again at the start of every period, at random. If more than one crew holds the winning number, they all win that period.
Lanes (Total, Home, Away, Gap) are a personal side-stake for fun. They never win a prize: only the crew’s number does.
Prizes
Any prize is offered by the bar or the host running the game, not by Settle It. It’s shown on the screen before kickoff. The bar decides what it is, how it’s handed over, and how it’s shared when crews tie. Questions about a prize go to the bar.
To collect, show the bar your phone: when your crew wins, it carries a prize card with your crew, the prize, the period and a live clock. Staff mark it handed over, and every phone in the crew then shows it as given. One prize per win, to the crew.
Bars and hosts are responsible for running prizes in a way that’s allowed where they are. Where a prize like this isn’t allowed, there isn’t one: the game still plays for the win.
Leaderboards
Wins go on the leaderboards. It’s a game of luck, so nobody is ranked on one ladder and there is no last place. Anyone with an account can keep themselves off the boards in Your Settle It.
Fair play
Play as yourself, keep names decent, and don’t try to break the game. The host or the bar can remove a name, a crew or a photo; so can we. The full terms are here.
